The patient cannot drive immediately after the surgery to go home from the PRK medical center. There are two reasons for the same, firstly sedative given during the surgery makes the patient feel drowsy and secondly, the vision becomes blurry immediately after the surgery. It continues for several hours and after that also a slight discomfort is common to continue. So, you need to arrange someone to drive and take you home from the medical center.
Driving After PRK
PRK surgery is comparatively more invasive procedure compared to the other laser eye surgeries and so it needs more recovery time. Most of the PRK patients can experience better vision with decreased blur by the next morning of the surgery, however, it is not easy and safe for them to drive at that instance. Fairly good vision takes at least a week time.
The patient experiences discomfort for a couple of days after the PRK surgery and it is usually mild to moderate. Visual recovery takes several days. Driving activity needs more time after the surgery. So, it takes 5 days to one week to resume driving by the PRK patient.
Special Care During Driving
Based on special and unique prescription of the patient, the surgery and recovery time also depend accordingly.
Night vision is problematic after the surgery and it continues for several days. Hence, night driving must be avoided for many days. During day driving also special care is required. Eye glasses are very important to wear to make sure that there are no debris particles and dust entered the eyes. Most importantly don’t let sweat to enter the eyes even during the summer driving days.
