When laser eye surgery is considered, the one that flashes in the mind is the Lasik surgery, because of the familiarity and the frequency of choice of the potential laser eye surgery patients. There are two other laser eye surgeries, named PRK and SMILE, which are preferred to perform only at customized or specific eye vision conditions. The success rate of the Lasik laser eye surgery is very high, however, there are also certain drawbacks or disadvantages associated with the Lasik laser eye surgery.
Apart from various advantages associated with the Lasik eye surgeries, the following are some possible disadvantages of the same.
- Technically, there is a possibility of loss of best vision and this condition is very rare. The best vision can still be achieved in addition with the contact lenses or eye glasses.

Despite the above disadvantages, there are certain symptoms that are common after the surgery during the recovery period. If these symptoms are persistent even after the recovery period, which is beyond 6 months, then these symptoms can be considered and interpreted as the side effects. - Difficulty for night driving
- Glare
- Fluctuating vision
- Seeing starbursts and halos around the bright lights and images
- Disturbances and discomfort of vision temporarily

- Remarkable overcorrection, regression or undercorrection
- Eye infections
The disadvantages mentioned in the above list are not regular list of negative results, but possible symptoms. In any instances, any deviating condition is considered as a symptom and it is considered as a side effect and severe, only if the same condition is continued even after the recovery period. In case of complications, these can be identified immediately, usually during the follow-up visits.
On an overall though there are possible disadvantages technically, these are the common disadvantages associated with any surgeries. So, to increase the success rate, selection of the experienced surgeon and standard medical center play vital role along with the post surgery care.
