If you are a fitness freak and play sports like cricket very often, the concern of workout is natural after the Lasik surgery. However, there is nothing to worry as the waiting period is not very long. Since eyes are the most sensitive organs of the body and incredibly precious, the patient should ensure enough time is given for healing and recovery, after the Lasik surgery.
How Workouts Affect?
Lasik surgery involves creation of the flap and flap has to be maintained with no physical stress or pressure above. During the workouts or sports, simple pressure, even wiping sweat over the eyes can result in complications of the flap. And think of rubbing the eyes for correction of eyesight that is usually done, while looking at the farer object, how much it can damage the flap. Though workouts and sports are healthy for the body, any pressure over the eyes is possible, done either knowingly or unknowingly.
So, How Long?
As the list and types of workouts and sports is very long and huge and diversity of them is more, in terms of movement and flexibility of the body, there is no one single and fixed period of time for recovery to wait before resuming. And one more important deciding factor for the waiting time is the type of Laser surgery one has gone through. So, let us see what kind of exercises and workouts need how much time for recovery, when Lasik surgery is considered to be gone through.
For lighter and gentle workouts, like jogging, Pilates or yoga, one week period is enough after the surgery. If any weightlifting is part of your workout, you need to wait for two weeks, if youworkout with lighter weights and four weeks for heavier weights. Other workout activities, such as swimming and steam room need one month of period before resuming. If you are a regular player of tennis, football or cricket, the waiting period would be 6 weeks minimum. Other sports like basketball, badminton and squash also need 6 months. Based on the complexity of each of the workout and sports, one can understand how much time it is important to leave for recovery. Your workout activity most probably would be covered within this complexity.
So, the total period of waiting to resume to regular workouts and exercises would be in between one week to six months of duration, covering in between the specified complexity levels.
Good to Know While Workout

- Ensure to use elliptical machines while resuming the workout
- Then slowly go for higher intensity workouts that sweat you more, like heavy weight lifting or even hot yoga.
- If you sweat more often, wear a sweatband over the head so that sweat can be prevented from dripping into your eyes and keep a small towel always handy to give touch up to the face, without touching the eyes.
- Never rub the swipe the sweat on the eyes with towel or fingers.
So, when you resume your workout be conscious about your eyes and never allow any physical pressure over the eyes.
