Lasik surgery, being an advanced surgery in the medical industry, there are various myths developed by the people. However, one would prefer and go for the Lasik surgery because it is one of the safest surgical procedure, as it does not include blades and incision for the surgery. Addressing technically, crying after Lasik surgery is not harmful and so safe. However, the threat can be with the rubbing the eyes with pressure, during or after crying. Rubbing possibly creates displacement, wrinkles of folds of flap. In case of flap wrinkles or flap fold occur, the vision can be blurred that may result in unclear and hazy vision.
Then what to do? Ideally, rubbing should not be done, though crying is absolutely fine after the surgery. In case rubbing is done and discomfort is felt by the patient after rubbing, the treating doctor has to be consulted. Then the treating doctor would examine and check the eye under the slit lamp. In case any folds and wrinkles are found, further medication and treatment would be followed. So, not only while crying, but in any other situations or conditions, you shall not rub your eyes that hinder the natural healing process and recovery process of your eyes.
