Usually after the Lasik procedure, the patient is suggested to have a nap and even sometimes a sleeping pill is also given to get one to sleep, after going home. However, the doctors suggest the patients to not to take nap at least for six hours, post to the procedure of Lasik.
And it is to note that taking nap after the Lasik procedure is not the end of the world or threat to the eye health. Still, it is important to know what is acceptable and what should be healthier practice for post Lasik procedure.
Why No Nap?
When we examine the technical reasons and procedure, the last step involved in the procedure of Lasik is replacing the top cornea layer and it is done with high precession, perfectly. Technically, it is important that this layer has to be aligned well, so that it could be barely predicted where the edge is present, even when seen using a microscope, post to the surgery.
So, right after the surgery, it is important to wait for six hours for topcoat of epithelium to enable layer’s edge to be sealed. Since it is left in perfect state, any modification to that state is bad. After the six hour period the tendency to change its state would be reduced to an optimum level. And the most common and regular cause for microscopic is dryness.
