After the Lasik eye surgery, dry eye become common. As part of the Lasik surgical procedure and treatment, it is necessary that one maintains the eyes dry-free, by lubricating the eyes to the possible ways. The symptom of dry eyes can continue for a few weeks to a few months and sometimes longer. As long these dry eyes are existing, the lubrication process has to go on.
Since dry eyes may result in lesser visual outcomes and discomfort, eye drops are suggested by the eye surgeons or even similar therapies so that eye moisture can be maintained.
Dry eyes are caused by tear film and it has three important components, mucus, oil and water. The eye drops are suggested to the unique condition of the patient, on the basis of particular condition of dry eye. The recommendation would be on the basis of which layer lacks or combination of these layers. And selection of the best eye drop for your unique condition is identified after conducting dry eye evaluation. The evaluation involves close eye surface examination and special testing.
Most of the surgeons recommend artificial tears, like Refresh Plus and Refresh Optive Lubricant Eye Drops. These both are recommended especially for post-Lasik dryness and are preservative-free. The doctor also suggests certain instructions to follow.
Apart from these tears, some of the surgeons may also recommend Restasis eye drops that help the body formulate further more tears and reduce the inflammation to a better extent. These drops may be suggested as alternative to the above eye drops also. Dry eyes are also treated with other kind of remedies, such as punctual plugs and they help to block drainage channels of tear so that eye moisture can be increased. These plugs also help function as anti-inflammatory medications, like corticosteroids, suggested in the form of eye drops.
