Lasik is one of the laser eye surgeries, preferred by most of the people, compared to the other surgeries, like PRK, LASEK, SMILE, etc. The reason for preferring this procedure is earlier recovery.
Activities After Surgery
Since Lasik is preferred for quicker recovery, most of the activities performed day to day in our lives can be resumed, much earlier than the other procedures. Regarding the normal activities, most of the day to day regular activities can be resumed after two days of the surgery. Most of the patients do get the doubt, cooking is part of the regular activities and is it fine, if cooking can also be resumed after the day of Lasik surgery. Yes, the concern is good and one needs to know why the patient can go and why the patient cannot go for cooking after the procedure.
Cooking After the Surgery
As normal activities can be resumed after one day of the surgery procedure, cooking can be resumed after at least two days after the surgery. It is because, the process of cooking demands closer contact with the vessels on the stove and eyes have to go closer to the vessel. Since, cooking vessel emits heat, in most of the cases, eventually, the eyes, which get closer to the vessel tend to absorb more heat and it may not be healthier for the eye corneal surface and flap, which are in the course of healing. So, it may not be very good for the eyes operated with Lasik.
However, compared to the other laser eye surgeries, recovery is a bit faster with the Lasik procedure, rather than the other procedures. So, you need not wait for weeks together before cooking. Small and easier cooking tasks and for a few minutes can be resumed in two to three days after the surgery.
If you are very much interested for cooking, it is important that you consult your surgeon and address your interests and concerns. Based on your unique prescription, the surgeon will be the right person to suggest you when exactly you can resume cooking two days or one week after your surgery.
