Lasik is always safe in long term and this statement sounds very subjective, as there are various factors effecting and justifying the statement. When the facts are considered, Lasik results tend to be longer, with careful evaluation prior to the surgery and post operation care, while standard procedure and skilled surgeon are considered as the primary requisites.
The motto of going for Lasik is improved vision and reduces dependency of hassled contact lenses or glasses. There is a fair chance of achieving the vision of 20/25 or even better after this Lasik refractive eye surgery. The results are longer enough and any possible symptoms after the Lasik procedure, usually are not because of this procedure, but because of the other vision complications that tend to occur with the age and other factors.
Factors Influencing Long Term Lasik Results
There are various factors that influence the long term results of the Lasik surgery and also there are certain conditions, which are mis-interpreted as the short term results or side effects of the Lasik surgery.
- In most of the cases, the results after the Lasik depend over specific prescription or refractive errors. The success rate of this refractive surgery is more for the patients with lower reading or grade of nearsightedness. As opposed to this condition, like patients with higher degree of farsightedness or nearsightedness and especially when astigmatism condition is added would eventually have lower rates of success.
- There is also possibility that the Lasik procedure may end up with undercorrection or overcorrection. It is possible, usually, when the assessment procedure is not performed at standard levels. However, there is nothing to worry, as it can be converted to have longer term results, as another surgery can be attempted to correct this mistake.
- Though it is rare, it is technically possible that some of the patients have the eyes that may return to the vision level they had prior to the surgery, slowly. This factor or risk is possible because of certain conditions, like pregnancy, hormonal imbalances or abnormal wound healing.
- The best possible condition after the Lasik procedure in most of the cases can be presbyopia. Presbyopia is a condition, where the eye sight or vision gets deteriorated as the age gets progressed. There is a much higher probability that this condition can be considered as the side effect or shorter living results of the Lasik surgery.
- Other prominent condition is the condition of cataract, which is the risk of the eye vision that increases with the age of the patient. It is not because of the Lasik surgery performed, but another eye problem.
Hence there are various conditions or risks of eye vision, possible with any human being. Lasik is the laser eye surgery that can treat the conditions of farsightedness, nearsightedness and astigmatism conditions and it cannot guarantee to stop other risks or conditions to occur the eyes, which are absolutely from totally different sources.
