As a part of post-operative preparation and advice sought after Lasik treatment, it is quite usual to get the doubt whether cooking would affect the eyes, which are operated. Cooking is the process, where one has to work with the steams, fire and smoke. It is quite possible that the smoke and steam could touch the eye ball. And the question is, whether the eye ball will have affects during the process of cooking.
Most of the doctors suggest and recommend the people, who have undergone the Lasik procedures to stay in very clean environment, where dust and dust particles are minimum. It is quite important because the patient is advised to use lubricants for the eyes to avoid dryness of the eyes. So, when the dust particles or any kind of unusual environment is experienced, and the eye lubricant gets mixed with the unwanted or harmful dust particles, the results may not pleasant.
Hence, it is important to understand and realize that the process of cooking in kitchen is more of dealing with different food ingredients, such as flours, etc. and cutting vegetables, like onions and using spices. All these ingredients may not be safe for the very sensitive eyes after the Lasik procedures.
However the sensitiveness of the eyes is not carried longer. After a few days, eyes become to a normal state, where regular and day to day activities can be performed with no hesitation. It is for a couple of days that one is recommended to avoid cooking, which is more like dealing with higher temperatures. The patient has to be very careful, even with heating water, dealing with very hot food.
After one week of time, most of the people will come to a state that they forget they have undergone the Lasik procedure because of their newly gained comfort to perform day to day activities. Hence, it is quite fine to cook after duration of a week. And it has to be remembered that if the patient feels any kind of discomfort with the eyes and performing any kind of day to day activities, including cooking in the kitchen, one has to avoid doing so and should take an appointment with the respective doctor.
